I found a Q&A article on removing it which pointed me to the documentation’s readme section. Every license for DEVONthink 3 comes with two seats included, each one valid for using on one Mac. It honors that many of you use more than just one Mac but also that our software is used by teams. So I want to remove DT2 to avoid confusion. With DEVONthink 3 we’ve updated our licensing model, introducing the concept of seats. DT3 works, but the two keep getting tangled up, for example using the Save PDF to DevonThink option from a print dialog (which I use a lot) will open and save to DT2. DEVONthink databases are dynamic, and Dropbox isn’t designed to handle that. There’s a more critical problem potential, though. DEVONthink Pro and Pro Office store databases as package files. It can have problems, though, with some package files, especially large ones. In general, it might not be a bad thing to do a DB rebuild, and not just a verify, prior to an initial sync with the new system. I’ve installed DevonThink 3 alongside version 2 as per the upgrade guide. Dropbox is great for handling individual files in the cloud. In retrospect, I’m kind of glad this happened because my database had problems that “verify” didn’t find, and now I have it fixed. Perhaps I used a hammer to kill a gnat, but it only cost some time and now everything is “clean.” That issue was solved by deleting the packet sync folder in Dropbox and starting the process over with the rebuilt database as the source. DEVONthink Pro Office can publish databases using an embedded web server and make the col- lected knowledge so available in a local team or on the Internet. We advocate using a folder in your home directory, like /Databases, and never put them in a cloud-synced folder. DEVONthink uses a way of the database to manage data files, so when you create a new database each time, it is a project. This however did not fix the excessive iOS memory consumption, even when the “rebuilt” database had been synced with a fresh install of DTTG on my iPad Pro. DEVONthink stores the databases where you created them. Anyway, rebuilding that database made the size in DTPO the same (about) as the size on disk. Here is my understanding of Groups: Groups are broad subject headings where you place files under that. (FYI all my groups are represented by blue folder icons and cannot find the exclude tags command). DEVONthink Professional 1. Background: I have primarily indexed my database in groups based on my existing folder/file structure that is on my computer. I’m not exactly sure what I had done (I think it had to do with converting pdfs to pdf+text and re-doing files that had already been done with different settings). New user trying to sort out the value of tagging vs groups. My database on Mac OS (used to create the original Dropbox packet sync folders) was not in the best of shape. And, like nearly all problems, probably my fault (just ask my wife).Ĭondensing lots of investigation down to a few sentences… As with many problems, it was not a single issue. To do a deeper clean when moving from DEVONthink Pro (Office) 2 to DEVONthink 3 Note: While it is not a prerequisite, we strongly recommend making sure your proper primary backups are current before starting this process.
